"In 2005 my [goal] really was around helping students know that it was going to be okay. At the time there [were] a lot of different challenges that are less prominent now that students were facing then, and so at the time I remember thinking if I can be in a healthy relationship or if I can just be confident in my identity and not shy away from that in meetings, all of these things can help model or show the way for other people but also would have an impact on people in those meeting spaces or across campus to know that there are queer people here that matter and, ultimately, that could help people."
