"Some of the biggest criticisms I got for transitioning were from the queer community, but I think part of that had to do with as a lesbian I was dating women and so assumptions of me being heterosexual and I was dating someone as I was transitioning too so it was really interesting to see how the straight community [responded]. I remember the very first time we went out and we were read as a heterosexual couple, like a very different experience, we were both so uncomfortable with it but we didn't know what to do with it."
